Normal PP Sheet for Thermoforming

Normal PP thermoforming sheet is a polypropylene sheet designed for high-efficiency thermoforming processes. It is widely used in food and industrial packaging where heat resistance, flexibility, and cost efficiency are required, but ultra-high clarity or low-temperature toughness is not critical.

Compared with PET or PS, PP sheets offer higher temperature resistance and better hinge performance, making them suitable for hot-fill, microwave-reheatable, and reusable packaging applications.

Advantages of Normal PP Sheet

  • High Heat Resistance
Suitable for applications up to 120–130°C, ideal for hot-fill food trays and microwave reheating containers.
  • Excellent Flexibility & Living Hinge Performance
PP does not crack easily after forming, making it ideal for hinged lids and snap-fit designs.
  • Lightweight & Cost-Efficient
Lower density than PET, reducing material usage and transportation cost per unit.
  • Stable Thermoforming Behavior
Performs well on medium- to high-speed thermoforming lines with consistent forming depth.
  • Food-Contact Safe
Available in FDA / EU food-grade formulations for direct food contact.

Processing & Material Considerations
From Real Production & Thermoforming Experience

Higher forming temperature required:
PP needs a higher forming temperature than PET to achieve proper material flow.

Longer cooling time:
Lower thermal conductivity results in slower cooling during forming cycles.

Natural clarity limitation:
Optical clarity is inherently lower than APET or PETG, especially in thicker gauges.

Shrinkage control is critical:
Mold design and process tuning are essential for deep-draw thermoforming.

Additives may be required:
Anti-block or slip additives improve sheet separation and automated feeding.

Applications

PULIXIN’s PP thermoforming sheet is widely used in food packaging, blister trays, folding boxes, electronics protection, and industrial components.

  • Ready-to-eat meal trays
  • Microwave-safe food containers
  • Hot deli and takeaway packaging
  • Hinged clamshell containers
  • Industrial trays and inner packaging
  • Disposable food service packaging
Note: PP is not recommended where crystal-clear display or freezer impact resistance is required.
