HIPS is mainly produced by injection molding. The product can be molded by injecting molten resin into a cold mold at high pressure. It is suitable for the overall manufacture of devices with complex components and has low production costs. HIPS is generally lower in melt viscosity than ABS, and is particularly suitable for injection molding. The molding temperature is 180~225°C.
HIPS is mainly used in the manufacture of housings and electrical components of electrical equipment, and is often used in housings of household appliances, such as VCR, CRT, etc., especially in a large number of housing materials for televisions. Since most household appliances require flame retardancy, the flame retardant research on HIPS has been very active.
HIPS can also be used as packaging and disposable materials, especially food packaging materials and eating utensils. Main applications include daily packaging containers, dispensing cups for vending machines, various covers, plates, bowls, etc. Disposable items such as dishes, bottle caps, safety razors, penholders, etc.
