Normal HIPS Sheet for Thermoforming

Normal HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) sheet is a cost-efficient thermoforming material designed for rigid packaging where impact resistance, dimensional stability, and easy forming are required. It is widely used for disposable trays, blisters, and industrial packaging with moderate performance demands.

Processing & Usage Notes

Forming Temperature Window
Typical forming range: 70–85°C. HIPS heats evenly and allows stable wall thickness in shallow to medium draws. Overheating may reduce surface definition.

Thermoforming Behavior
Offers better impact resistance than GPPS with controlled rigidity. Suitable for plug-assist forming, clamshells, trays, blisters, and cosmetic packaging.

Cooling & Cycle Time
Cools faster than PP, slower than PET. Mold temperature control is required to avoid warping or edge curl on high-speed lines.

Dimensional Stability
Shrinkage is moderate and predictable. Tooling compensation is recommended for tight tolerances or asymmetric cavities.

Surface Quality & Printability
Smooth matte-to-semi-gloss surface with good ink adhesion. Surface treatment recommended for UV or high-ink-load printing.

Clarity Limitation
Clarity is lower than APET or PETG. Best for applications prioritizing impact strength and cost over transparency.

Additives
Anti-block, slip, anti-static, and color-modified grades available for automated forming and specialty packaging.

Usage Limits
Not suitable for high-heat, microwave, or long-term freezer use. Oils, solvents, and UV exposure may affect performance over time.
